Enterprise Business Systems Project
Before 2007, this project was referred to as the FIS/HRIS project.
The System Requirements Definition (SRD) Project is a 20-month project designed to improve our collective understanding of the information systems in the Finance and Human Resources areas that we collectively need to support MSU. This project will last until the end of 2006 and end with a set of recommendations to our senior leadership on next steps.

MSU IT Environment Map
The MSU IT Environment Map [PDF] (best printed on 11x17 paper) is an attempt to provide a high-level view of the landscape of information technology functions, systems, services and their current status and trajectories.
The map begins in the leftmost column with two working-draft vision statements, one for the academic technology environment and one for the business environment. The rest of the map contains column pairs in which the left column of each pair names, in no particular order, functional needs of the University, and the right column notes the current system, status or plans to meet each need.
The map attempts to capture the largest systems across the entire administrative/support side of the University. It is not limited to showing only those systems and services provided by Libraries, Computing and Technology. It also does not represent an exhaustive or complete catalog of systems and services.
Teaching and Learning Environment (TLE) Funding Information
The "Teaching and Learning Environment" funds originated in FY1994-95 as a special line of funding in MSU's annual appropriation from the State of Michigan; the funding later became a part of MSU's base appropriation, but is still administered in accordance with the original intentions and design for the funding.
The TLE funding cycle is annual. Beginning with the budget cycle in the 2007-08 Fiscal Year (budgeting for FY 2008-09), TLE requests will be a component of the regular planning and budgeting processes of the Provost's office. The Provost, through the Office of Planning and Budgets, provides request instructions and templates. Requests are made from the level of colleges (deans) and academic support units (directors).
Points of information regarding TLE funding are provided in:
- A current "TLE Accounts Primer": TLE (91-) Accounts Primer, 26 Oct 2007.pdf
- A memo describing TLE process changes implemented in the FY 2007-08 budgeting cycle: TLE process change memo

Technology Strategic Planning Outline
This outline exists in a continuous "work in progress" state. It is updated from time to time based on input from advisory committees and other LCT interaction with the MSU community, and on developments in LCT’s programmatic and staff activities.
It is not intended to describe a strategic plan for technology at Michigan State University, but is intended for two purposes:
- Communicate the current state of strategic and tactical concerns, thinking, planning and activity regarding technology at Michigan State University.
- Do this in a way that can helpfully frame communication, discussion and debate about these issues, to facilitate effective planning.
